Horizon Wind Energy Places Order for 242 Wind Turbines

Horizon Wind Energy has placed an order for 242 units of the V82-1.65 MW wind turbine. The wind turbines, which will have a total installed capacity of 400 MW, will be delivered to Horizon owned wind projects.

Horizon Wind Energy LLC, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is a leading wind project developer and a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal, S.A., a major Portuguese utility and one of the world’s largest generators of electricity from renewable energy sources. By the end of 2007, Horizon will have developed more than 2,200 gross MW and will be operating wind power plants with a total installed capacity of over 1,500 gross MW. Horizon is currently developing a portfolio of more than 10,500 gross MW in over a dozen states.

“We have a solid history of doing business with Vestas and are pleased about this purchase of 400 MW of V82 turbines. We look forward to expanding upon our strong relationship for future wind farm development,” said Antonio Martins da Costa, CEO of Horizon Wind Energy.

Vestas will supply and commission the turbines, and the order also comprises a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery is expected to begin at the end of 2008 and will continue through 2009.

“Vestas is proud to announce this 400 MW order which confirms the performance and reliability of the V82-1.65 MW turbine in the North American market. We are also very pleased to be adding additional V82-1.65 MW turbines to Horizon’s existing portfolio,” says Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S. “The strong and longstanding relationship between Vestas and Horizon is an important driver for the expansion of wind power in the USA and is further proof that wind power is a competitive generating technology. Wind power helps fight global warming, fuels economic growth and creates thousands of new local jobs.”
