Since launching in Glasgow last year, Cairn Risk has worked with some of the UK’s major renewable energy projects to help developers reduce their risk as much as possible and to demonstrate that project designs are safe for construction.

Cairn Risk currently supports 15.6 GW of renewables projects across a range of clean energy technologies including onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen, solar and battery storage.

While supporting the UK’s renewable energy industry, Cairn Risk has also been working with developers globally to raise the industry’s health and safety standards in countries such as Canada, USA, Mauritania, Germany, Denmark, and India.

Cairn Risk operates an employee-ownership model and with staff based in London, north west England and a headquarters in Glasgow, Scotland, it is helping clean power developers across the world safely transition to net zero.

The last 18 months has seen Cairn Risk celebrate some significant landmarks such as:

  • Securing contracts across 15.6GW of renewable energy projects including offshore wind, hydrogen, battery and solar
  • Supporting five major developers in the renewable energy industry
  • Reaching over £2 million in business sales
  • Increasing the team’s headcount to 16 staff and a non-executive director
  • Signing its 47th contract in September 2023
  • Working with 15 national and international energy developers and 4 global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Founded by Tom Semple and Gareth Ellor (pictured) in April 2022, Cairn Risk helps developers in the renewable energy industry demonstrate that project designs are safe for construction and meet health and safety standards.

Tom Semple, Co-Founder of Cairn Risk Consulting, said: “It has been an unbelievable 18 months for us.

“Starting with just Gareth and me, we’ve gone from strength to strength, growing to a delivery team of 16.  We’re helping some of the world’s biggest developers of clean power ensure their projects meet the most stringent health and safety requirements before entering the construction stage.

“We’ve been able to recruit top quality graduates and highly experienced professionals who are now benefiting from our employee-ownership model and I’m particularly pleased that all the team has embraced our values of collaboration, authenticity, solutions, and empowerment.

“Everyone at Cairn Risk feels privileged to be working with some great organisations across the world.  We are extremely proud to be playing our part in helping deliver the clean power projects that are vital in delivering the safe transition to net zero.”
