CHOICE has ranked Tindo solar panels the best-performing modules in Australia and the only solar panel where the power output matched the manufacturer’s claim.
The consumer advocacy organization tested 15 rooftop solar panels at the end of 2024, updating its previous solar panel preview. Tindo’s 410 w Karra scored the only ‘Excellent measured power output’ rating and achieved an overall 92% ‘CHOICE Expert Rating’ in front of the 80% CHOICE Expert Rating scored by the second-placed panel.
The CHOICE power output test revealed the 410 w Tindo panel delivered 417 w, while the other solar panels in the review produced less than the manufacturer’s claimed output. Tindo’s monocrystalline PERC solar panel out-performed other higher-priced panels and it was the only Australian-made solar panel in the CHOICE product review. Tindo and only one imported panel received a 'Recommended' rating from CHOICE.
Chief Executive Officer of Tindo, Richard Petterson, said the CHOICE product review was a validation of the engineering and manufacturing effort carried out at Tindo’s Adelaide factory.
“With a workforce of sixty people, we design and build a solar panel that competes with the best in the world,” said Mr Petterson. “CHOICE’s recognition of our panel is a great outcome for the company and for the customers who invest in an Australian-made, premium product.
“Tindo makes a significant investment in its R&D program, and we run an in-house engineering team that is constantly working on product improvements and upgrades. The panel that gained the CHOICE accolade is the eighth generation of solar panel produced by Tindo since the company made its first solar panel in 2011.”
Mr Petterson said the global solar PV market was maturing and demanding greater quality and longevity from solar modules, which was a trend that suited Tindo.
“We’ve always made a panel that can withstand Australia’s unique climate. We believe that a panel must have a long life to be able to abate the CO2 that was used making and shipping the product.”
Since the CHOICE product review Tindo has replaced its 410 w Karra with the 430 w Walara, a panel that includes the same level of quality control as its predecessor while producing better performance.
