Established manufacturers of LED watches are facing a new challenge from China wholesale LED watch manufacturers.
And eBay resellers and online ecommerce store owners in an excellent position to get big profits from the challenge.
The mens' and ladies' LED watch or binary wristwatch has long been the symbol of the ubercool 'leet' (elite) . Not only do they require a level of familiarity to read them but they also come with a hefty price tag.
According to Rose Li, PR manager for wholesale dropship supplier, Chinavasion, a Tokyo Flash or 'The One' binary watch could go for as much as three hundred to five hundred US dollars.
"For such a simple electronic device the LED watch has become the definition of exclusivity and cutting-edge fashion," says Rose Li.
Now there's a new player in town and wholesale prices are tumbling.
According to Chinavasion's Rose Li, China wholesale manufacturers are making LED watches for a fraction of the price of better-known Japanese and Korean manufacturers.
"The average LED wristwatch made by a China electronics manufacturer goes for between 20 and 100 USD, less than half the price of the Tokyo Flash Watch," according to Rose Li.
With dropship suppliers profits could even potentially be higher due to the lack of shipping or double handling fees.
Rose Li says this puts LED watch shop owners and resellers in a fantastic position.
"Resellers now can find cheap LED watches from China, put on a gigantic mark up then sell them on eBay and get huge returns," according to Rose Li.
However, as binary watches are perceived high-end items it is vital that eBay resellers make sure they get a wholesale supplier that is reputable and has a QC process beyond question.
"LED watches are a high-end item so a faulty wristwatch won't only damage your eBay seller reputation, it will completely destroy it," says Rose Li.
