OG+E Receives Approval for Contracts with New Wind Farms

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has issued two orders authorizing OG&E’s purchase of electricity from new wind farms that are at present being developed in northwestern Oklahoma.

Orders from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission will enable customers of OG&E to receive electricity from a 130-megawatt facility that is being built by Edison Mission Energy in Dewey County near Taloga and from a 150-megawatt wind farm being built by CPV Keenan in Woodward County. Production in these two wind farms are expected to start by the end of the year 2010. Developers will manufacture, own and operate these wind farms under a 20-year power-purchase agreement approved by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. This agreement will also enable OG&E to purchase the electric output from the wind farms..

Brian Alford, Spokesman for OG&E, remarked that the entire process started with competitive bids for more renewable energy followed by productive negotiations with projects, which will provide value to its customers. Alford further remarked that the company is also looking forward to increasing the amount of wind power on its system with these regulatory orders from Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

At present, OG&E has 270 megawatts of wind capacity in production at the Sooner, OU Spirit and Centennial wind farms that are situated in northwestern Oklahoma near Woodward. OG&E will possess a total of 550 megawatts of wind-generation capacity as a result of the two extra new facilities that are to be constructed in the year 2010. The power generated will be sufficient to power 125,000 homes.  OG&E, by the year 2012, is expecting to continue with the expansion of its wind power portfolio to about 770 megawatts.
