CleanTECH San Diego to Host Wind Power Showcase

CleanTECH San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to positioning San Diego as a world leader in the clean technology industry, will host the CleanTECH San Diego Showcase, "Wind Power: Leading the Renewables Renaissance” on February 10, 2010. The forum examines how investments in wind power projects and related technologies are leading all renewable investments in today’s economy. Keynote Speaker Jim McDermott, managing partner of US Renewables Group, will join representatives from EnXco and Helix Wind for a panel discussion at the showcase from 4 to 7 p.m. at the La Jolla Marriott, located at 4240 La Jolla Village Drive.

The CleanTECH San Diego Showcase will feature industry leaders addressing the role of wind generation in powering the nation's economic recovery and meeting renewable energy goals. Jim McDermott of US Renewables, a leading renewable energy-focused investment firm, will discuss the wind market and strategies for buyers, sellers and new market entrants. The keynote presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring McDermott: Dr. Jim Walker, Vice Chairman of EnXco, and Ian Gardner, CEO of Helix Wind. The panel will delve into the emerging trends, opportunities and challenges surrounding wind power investments.

Currently, there are 24 wind companies in San Diego County, making our region a prime area to generate public awareness while benefiting from industry growth.

"As research and other spending in this sector grow, we expect the revenue of the wind industry will emerge into a huge economic engine for the nation,” said Lisa Bicker, President of CleanTECH San Diego. "CleanTECH San Diego is proud to embark on a quarterly series that highlights these successes.”

In a study by the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, it was found that the integration of 20 percent wind energy is technically feasible, but will require significant expansion of the transmission infrastructure and system operational changes in order for it to be realized.
