AREVA Enters Global Solar Energy Business with Ausra’s Acquisition

AREVA is all set to enter the global solar energy business with the 100% acquisition of Ausra, a US-based company. Ausra manufactures solar steam generators that are used for industrial steam applications and for power generation. The acquisition will help the company to meet its goal to be a global leader in concentrated solar power market.

The group aims to construct cost-effective concentrated solar power (CSP) plants for independent power producers, utilities, and industrial customers throughout the world by combining the proven technology of Ausra and Engineering, Procurement and Construction skills of AREVA.

During the next decade, the market for CSP plants is anticipated to grow significantly and reach an installed capacity of more than 20 GW by the year 2020 with 20% average annual growth rate. AREVA is expected to be a leader in this growing market with this acquisition.

Anil Srivastava, Business Group Renewable Energies Senior Executive Vice President, said that Ausra’s acquisition will help AREVA to achieve its objectives in the renewable energy sector. Srivastava added that with the cost-effective and reliable product, the company aims to be global leader in the CSP market.
