Solar Choice Commends UK Feed-in-Tariff

Solar Choice, a solar panel installation company, has commended the proposed UK feed-in-tariff. The new feed-in-tariff will be implemented from April 2010.

Businesses or homes that generate solar power through PV systems will be paid for all the units produced including the units consumed by them through this new UK feed-in-tariff. The rates at which the solar power producers will be paid vary depending largely on the size and type of the solar power installed. Starting from 29.3p per unit, the rates will rise to 41.3p per unit. Moreover, excess electricity generated from the systems will be purchased by the utility grid and the customers will receive additional 3p per unit.

Ajay Hargreaves, Sales Director at Solar Choice, said this new feed-in-tariff presented a wonderful opportunity for the people to gain from their solar power systems. Investment in solar panel installations will yield returns between 8% and 10% per year easily. The government support through its incentives should encourage the people in Britain to adopt solar power, Hargreaves said.

The government is hoping that more people will go in for clean energy since it has committed at the Copenhagen Conference that by the year 2050, the country will reduce its carbon emissions by 60%. With the introduction of new feed-in-tariff, the UK has now joined developed countries such as Germany, Hungary, Australia, Spain, France and others to support its people to adopt clean energy solutions.
