Background

Hydrogen is the simplest and most common element in the universe. It is 14.5 times lighter than air and does not naturally exist as hydrogen gas but rather as part of a compound where it is bonded to other elements. For example, it is found in water (H2O) and in hydrocarbons such as natural gas (CH4). To produce pure hydrogen we have to ‘unlock’ the chemical bonds in the molecules that form these substances.

Hydrogenics' Fuel Cell Power Products

Hydrogenics' Fuel Cell Power Products, available in a range of configurations, provide easily integrated solutions for a wide range of customers:

HyPM Fuel Cell Power Modules

The HyPM HD Fuel Cell Power Module is designed for mobility applications and the rack-mountable HyPM XR Fuel Cell Power Module is designed for stationary backup power applications.

HyPM HD and HyPM XR both offer value-added DC power options for customers looking for a more easily integrated power solution delivering nominal DC power at specific voltages.

HyPX Fuel Cell Power Packs

These hybrid power package solutions include integrated energy storage, hydrogen storage, thermal management and DC power options. Offering clean power with high performance, this 'plug and play' fuel cell power product targets applications that seek a better solution to lead acid batteries.

Power With A Purpose

Features of HyPM Fuel Cell Power Modules

Hydrogenics' HyPM fuel cell power modules run on high purity hydrogen to produce DC power in standard outputs of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 65 kW. The HyPM-XR Power Module is a rack-mountable product version targeted at backup power applications while the HyPM-HD Power Module caters to mobility applications.

At the heart of every HyPM fuel cell power module is Hydrogenics’ proprietary H2X® fuel cell stack technology, offering consistent high performance and durability over a wide power range.

HyPM’s balance of plant is designed with reliability and simplicity in mind characterized by low pressure operation, high fuel efficiency, quiet operation and effective liquid cooled operation.

With simplified and standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces for ease of integration, this fuel cell product is primarily attractive to a wide range of OEM customers and system integrators for stationary, mobile and auxiliary power applications.

Features of HyPX Fuel Cell Power Packs

Hydrogenics' HyPX Fuel Cell Power Packs include a standard HyPM Power Module integrated with a hydrogen storage tank, thermal management, controls, and ultracapacitors which capture and release regenerative power to provide higher power in short bursts as required by the load profile of a specific application. This Fuel Cell Power Pack product has an identical form, fit and function as large battery packs used in powered equipment such as material handling vehicles.

Benefits

Benefits of HyPX over standalone HyPM:

  • Improved system performance based on instantaneous power response at optimal efficiency range
  • Increased fuel efficiency
  • Instantaneous response and peak power in excess of HyPM rating
  • Increased durability
  • Superior power quality
  • Thermal management for heat rejection
  • Integrated compressed hydrogen storage

……..leading to broader market opportunities for the adoption of fuel cell technology
