Researchers at AWI have discovered proof of living, potentially pathogenic vibrions surviving on microplastic particles for the first time. Going forward, they plan to explore in depth the role of these particles on the buildup and likely distribution of these bacteria.

The geologic record tells us that as glaciers expanded and covered Adélie breeding habitats with ice, penguins in the region abandoned their colonies.
