Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate Program Receives Extension from Department of Environmental Protection

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today announced the extension of the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate program, which will continue to provide $2,000 rebates for large-battery system plug-in hybrid electric and battery-electric vehicles until June 30, 2015, or until the 500 vehicle benchmark is reached. To date, DEP has more than 150 rebates remaining at this amount.

Vehicles Powered by Electricity from Renewable Energy Could Reduce Deaths Due to Air Pollution

Driving vehicles that use electricity from renewable energy instead of gasoline could reduce the resulting deaths due to air pollution by 70 percent. This finding comes from a new life cycle analysis of conventional and alternative vehicles and their air pollution-related public health impacts, published Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

GEFA Grant Will Help Georgia Tech Expand EV Charging Program

In the last year Georgia Tech has seen steady growth in the number of electric vehicles (EV), with approximately 150 EVs parking on campus regularly. A recent grant of $39,675 from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) to Tech’s Parking and Transportation Services will help the Institute expand its EV charging program by installing nine dual-port Level II chargers in visitor-accessible locations including near the Student Center, Howey Physics Building, and Bobby Dodd Stadium.

‘Grimsel’ Electric Racing Car Breaks World Record for Acceleration

The ‘grimsel’ electric racing car today broke the previous world record for acceleration in electric cars. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.79 seconds in under 30 metres. The new record was set by students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who also designed and built the vehicle.
