Nanosys Joins Samsung Electronics for Boosting Commercial Nano-Architected Materials Applications in Solar Market

Nanosys, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. have formed a strategic alliance as well as licensing arrangement towards accelerating commercial applications development of nano-architected materials meant for the thin-film solar and electronics markets.

As per the agreement, Samsung Electronics will provide resources and funding for co-developing products using the technologies of Nanosys. This will see the development of high-efficiency, thin–film, industry-leading solar power panels, display technologies and flash memory products.

This deal includes the license rights to the leading intellectual property portfolio of Nanosys towards nano-architected materials. As per the deal, Samsung Electronics is contributing $15 million in equity investment from its affiliate Samsung Venture Investment Corporation towards this co-development.

This arrangement brings together Nanosys and Samsung Electronics for working together towards creating cost-effective, high-efficiency, advanced products in the display, semiconductor, memory, LED and solar fields. Samsung Electronics is a top-ranking company in the solar and electronics sectors while Nanosys is a sophisticated material architect.
