Ski Resorts Looking to Harness Sun for Greener Energy

Ski Resorts are hoping to reduce their carbon footprints. Traditionally ski resorts are large consumers of energy. By using solar energy they hope to offset the costs and also contribute to the fight against global warming.

After all their business depends on the white fluffy snow staying on the slopes and not turning into a muddy puddle. That is why most ski resort operators are more interested in clean energy sources and buy clean energy credits than any other businesses globally.

However, at present, they do not rank too high in generation of power through their own wind turbines, photovoltaic and thermal solar arrays. It is a situation that they are collectively out to remedy. Their very locations suggest low air temperatures and high elevation. Conditions ideally suited for solar power.

Those who have exploited this and generated solar power are challenged with another aspect. What to do with the huge amounts of power that they have managed to generate. Clearly it is an untapped source and the industry may grow well in the coming years as more and more people hunt for clean sources of power.
