HP today announced that its entire personal workstation line has become the first in the category to achieve a "Gold" listing - the highest rating products can achieve - in the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT(TM)).
With the addition of the workstations, HP now has the largest number of EPEAT Gold registered products in the industry.
Already recognized for their advanced performance and tuning, the HP workstations’ environmental attributes include low energy consumption, use of environmentally sensitive materials and a reuse- and recycle-friendly design.

"Customers will find these workstations not only to be the most innovative performance machines for the most demanding of applications, but also the best choice for the environmentally conscious professional."
HP Workstations are tapped by the world’s most demanding power users in industries such as graphic arts, broadcast/video post, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), engineering, finance and oil and gas exploration.
Companies use HP Workstations to design everything from running shoes to race cars, animated characters to deep-sea submersibles, and to manage everything from billions of dollars of tradable securities to mission-critical IT environments.
The current line of HP Workstations - all of them designed from the ground up for energy efficiency - include the HP xw4550 Workstation, the HP xw4600 Workstation, the HP xw6600 Workstation, the HP xw8600 Workstation, and the HP xw9400 Workstation.
All HP Workstations are more than 90 percent recyclable by weight and incorporate a tool-less chassis design for quick and easy upgrades by hand. Each workstation includes an 80 PLUS® power supply, which is up to 15 percent more efficient than a standard power supply, reducing both overall energy usage and the amount of waste heat released into the environment.
The EPEAT (http://www.epeat.net/) registry is designed to help businesses easily evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on the products’ environmental attributes. EPEAT evaluates electronic products according to three tiers of environmental performance: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The program is sponsored by the Green Electronics Council, and its environmental criteria are defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
HP Personal Computing Recycling Service and Green Expressway
One of the optional requirements to the EPEAT program is providing a recycling program for the registered products or for the previous generation products that they will replace.
As part of its total lifecycle approach to reducing the environmental impact of its products, HP has introduced the HP Personal Computing Recycling Service to help businesses responsibly dispose of their aging technology.
The new service offers an easy and cost-effective way for businesses to recycle old computing equipment. For as low as $18, businesses can contact HP, or their local HP authorized reseller, to retire up to 20 HP or similar, non-HP computing products. HP also recently introduced the Green Expressway, a new set of online resources on the HP Partner Portal that helps HP reseller partners grow their businesses while helping end-user business customers implement environmentally sound technology solutions. The Green Expressway provides partners with information specific to HP’s energy-efficiency programs, the latest environmental news, industry research and more.
