First Wind, a US-based independent wind energy company, has declared the construction completion of its Phase II of the 102 MW Milford Wind Corridor project and commencement of its commercial operations.
The Phase 1 and Phase II of the First Wind projects are located at Beaver and Millard counties in Utah.
The Milford Phase II project designed to generate 102 MW incorporates 68 numbers of 1.5 MW GE turbines and is placed north of its Phase I project with a capability to generate 204 MW power. The total 306 MW power generated from the two phases of First Wind is sufficient to supply electric power to around 64,000 homes. The company has contracted a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA), to supply the power generated from the Milford Phase II facility to the Glendale Water and Power and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).
RMT, which has completed the building of Milford I wind project in 2009 was involved in the construction of the Phase II of the project. The company commenced the construction of the project in the summer of 2010. The wind project supported around 200 on-site jobs during its construction phase and the combined power production facility will provide 20 full-time employment opportunities in maintenance and operations segments.
