TDK-EPC Introduces Capacitors with High Dielectric Strength for Wind Power Plant Applications
TDK-EPC, a group company of TDK, has introduced its new EPCOS power capacitors with higher levels of voltage rating from 550 VRMS AC up to 1000 VRMS AC. The MKP AC HP B25360 series addresses a capacitance range from 10 to 150 µF. The higher level of dielectric strength in the capacitors was made feasible by a castor oil filling.

The new capacitors also have the design advantage to induce an increased level of heat dissipation from the interior of the capacitor to the aluminum can. Additionally the hotspots with intense level of heat are minimized while increased level of insulation properties are attained thus increasing the running life of the parts to 100,000 hours meeting IEC 61071 norms. The capacitance of the capacitors does not change beyond 3%.
The components of the capacitors are designed to endure temperature ranges from -40 to +70 °C. The M10 type of screw terminals ensure dependable power connection. The terminals of the capacitors can be changed to meet the specific needs of the client or usage. The cans come with 75 or 85 mm diameters and their height ranges from 115 and 270 mm. The overpressure disconnector disengages the capacitors during overload conditions. Like any other EPCOS film capacitors the new capacitor series also comes with self-healing capabilities to manage the period of spark-overs due to excessive heat
The new MKP AC HP B25360 series capacitors are mainly used in AC output filters that are used in wind power plants.
