The Lund University Innovation System (LUIS) and PwC in partnership with Lund Municipality have sponsored the annual award of SEK 250 000 to encourage entrepreneurship, development and research in Skåne, Sweden. The award given for the 10th year in succession is aimed at supporting and promoting ideas that are novel and have commercial development value. The jury had a tough time in selecting three projects out of the total 18 entries received.

The cTrap invention of Professor Lennart Larsson, which received the first prize, is a safety cover that prevents dangerous discharges indoors. Normally, damages that are caused to a building due to dampness make dangerous indoor emissions. The available conventional products such as ventilation equipment and air purifiers though bring down the density level of such emissions but will not be able to contain them from disseminating into residential areas. cTrap, a flexible type of covering when used as coating directly over the damaged surface it ceases and holds such discharges at the source thus providing 100% effect against harmful discharges. The covering can be used over all damp surfaces as a precautionary measure during new construction or renovation of a house.

The other two projects that received commendation and award of SEK 50, 000 each include an internal plaster to stop scar development after surgery and a novel needle type of instrument for secure cancer diagnosis.
