Siemens Secures Orders for Wind Turbines in America

Siemens received a 100 MW wind power project contract in Puerto Rico during October 2011.

The company secured five supply orders for wind turbines, with a potential of more than 570 MW, from North America during July and September of 2011. The volume of the combined contract for all the six projects is over USD900 million. These wind power plants with more than 670 MW of total capacity will commission the delivery of green electricity to over 200,000 homes.

Siemens’ CEO for the Wind Power Division, Felix Ferlemann has stated that these new North American orders have revealed that the customers are investing in renewables continuously. Wind power offers employment in the installation, production and service regions and is a highly growing business segment in the world.

Previously, the company has provided around 1800 jobs. Besides, a nacelle production plant in Kansas, a rotor blade manufacturing facility in Iowa, and service centers in Texas and Washington, Siemens has planned to open a service distribution center for wind power this year in Oklahoma, and a tooling and distribution facility in Kansas. By this year end, the company will begin rotor blade manufacture in Canada.

The company will provide around 250 wind turbines, whose rating is 2.3 MW for every turbine, a Canadian wind farm and four projects in the US. Additional 44 turbines of similar potential are meant for a wind farm located in Puerto Rico. Siemens has completed wind turbine installation with a joint potential of over 4800 MW in North America.

Wind turbines have become a part of the ecological portfolio of Siemens. Approximately EUR28 billion are obtained as profits from the portfolio during the fiscal 2010 and Siemens has become the main ecofriendly technologies provider in the globe. The solutions and products of Siemens enabled clients to decrease the emission of carbon dioxide by 270 Mt.
