Canadian Solar Secures Deal for Two 18.7 MW AC Solar Farms

Canadian Solar Solutions, the subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in addition to an agreement to operate and maintain two solar energy farms of capacity 18.7 MW AC each for Penn Energy Renewables in Ontario, Canada.

The solar farm construction is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2012. The facilities are expected to be completely operational by 2013. The solar energy produced by the two solar farms should be sufficient to power 2,600 residences. The switch to this sustainable energy source will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 432,000 metric tons over a 20-year period.

The project is envisaged to generate more than 100 new jobs when construction will be in full swing. The opportunities will be in the fields of engineering, construction and manufacturing. When operations commence, additional positions will be created for operation and maintenance of the plants.

Sean McCloskey from Penn Energy expressed the company’s commitment to providing clean, sustainable solar energy to schools, residences and commercial establishments in their target communities and expressed satisfaction with Canadian Solar’s offerings. The reliability and quality of solar modules from Canadian Solar have been validated by significant international certifications. Their products feature a 10 year warranty for product workmanship and a power output guarantee for a 25-year period insured by a third party insurance policy of investment grade.
