Abengoa Selected to Develop Intelligent Water Management Network in Denizli, Turkey

Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been selected by the municipal water authority of the city of Denizli, Turkey, to develop an intelligent network of supply and sewerage pipelines covering nearly 250 kilometers (km).

This infrastructure will supply water and sanitation to the city's population of approximately 500,000. The project is worth €35 million.

Abengoa will be responsible for the engineering, design and construction of the project, under a turnkey EPC format, for a supply, sanitation and drainage network, as well as more than 30 wells and a Scada control system, which will optimize consumption and prevent energy and water loss. The company will also renovate the existing deposits, pumping stations, bore holes and low-voltage system, as well as operating and maintaining the facilities for a period of one year. The project is scheduled to be completed within 17 months. The company will not retain an interest in the constructed assets.

This new network will optimize water supply to households in the city of Denizli, as well as collecting waste water, thanks to the construction of new pipelines and the modernization of existing equipment. This less porous solution, which will prevent potential leaks, will also improve water quality. Furthermore, more than 200 direct jobs and 100 indirect jobs will be created during the construction phase.

These works form part of the Municipal Services Project that is being implemented by the local government. The main objective is to provide the city of Denizli and its metropolitan area with optimum services and the necessary infrastructures.

This latest contract will further consolidate Abengoa's position in the water sector, providing sustainable solutions to places where water resources are scarce. To date Abengoa has constructed more than 600 km of large-bore pipelines in countries such as Mexico, Chile, Peru, Spain and Angola, among others. Moreover, in Mexico Abengoa is constructing the El Zapotillo aqueduct, one of the largest water projects in the world, which will supply drinking water to nearly one and a half million inhabitants in an efficient, sustainable and secure way.
