Speaker Line-up Announced for ‘Agri-Tech and Environmental Sustainability’

The Agri-Tech Centres are thrilled to confirm the full line-up of speakers for their annual conference on 21 April – ‘Agri-Tech and Environmental Sustainability’.

The hybrid conference will bring together hundreds of experts from industry, science and policy to discuss the role of technological innovation and data in making farming and food more sustainable.

The speakers are:

  • Jo Churchill MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), who will give a welcome address.
  • Indro Mukerjee, Chief Executive, Innovate UK, who will give a welcome address.
  • Keynote speaker 1: Prof. Pete Smith, Professor of Soils and Global Change at the Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. Prof Smith has been an author on many reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and led its work of climate change mitigation in agriculture, forestry and land for its 4th and 5th Assessment Reports.
  • Keynote speaker 2: Anna Turrell, Head of Environment at Tesco, where she is responsible for the company’s climate change agenda, as well as other areas including sustainable agriculture, forests, marine and the company’s partnership with WWF.
  • Keynote speaker 3: Cliona Howie, Chief Executive Director, Foundation Earth, a non-profit organisation established to issue front-of-pack environmental scores on food products, enabling consumers to make more sustainable buying choices. 

Broadcaster Charlotte Smith, of BBC Countryfile and BBC Radio 4's Farming Today, is guest compere.

Delegates will have chance to put their questions to the speakers, and to the four Chief Executives of the Agri-Tech Centres.

Several leading agri-tech companies will also be on stage to showcase their ground-breaking innovations.
