Solarmer Energy has achieved 7.9% efficiency for their NREL certified plastic solar panel. This achievement caps off the year with similar significant achievements achieved during the year 2009. The accomplishments include manufacturing, module efficiency, plastic solar cell and several awards. This significant milestone also has a special meaning for the company founders.
Founders of Solarmer Energy, Edward Chen, Woolas Hsieh, and Jennifer Yu in the year 2005 dreamt of starting a company that would provide sustainable, affordable, and renewable clean energy for the world. Their dream came into reality in the year 2006 with the starting operation of Solarmer Energy, which developed plastic solar panels. The organic photovoltaic (OPV) industries started to emerge in the year 2006. Within a short span of three years, Solarmer Energy has achieved record efficiencies in the plastic solar panel category. Woolas Hsieh, Founder and President, said this milestone achievement proves the leadership status of Solarmer Energy in the OPV industry. He further added that their R+D efforts in the plastic solar panel have paid off placing them in a position to launch a product in this category.
Breaking world records for efficiency in plastic solar cell and plastic solar module has enabled Solarmer Energy to receive several awards from well-known organizations such as FlexTech Alliance, Department of Energy, and Office of Naval Research. The work for the pilot manufacturing line is progressing at a fast pace and will be operational in the next quarter. Woolas Hsieh was elected to sit on Board of Directors of Organic Electronics Association after Solarmer Energy joined the association.
Solarmer Energy will showcase their solar panels at Printed Electronics USA 2009, Photovoltaics 2009 trade show in San Jose, California on December 2nd and 3rd, 2009.
