Investments in Clean Technology Industry up by 32% in 2009

The investment in the clean technology market in 2008 was $288 billion and it has increased to $381 billion in 2009, representing a 32% jump. Key drivers for this growth in the industry were the legislations from governments throughout the world related to climate and energy.  The clean technology market also saw increased investment activity due to failing companies trying to merge with larger and stronger companies. In 2009 first quarter, new investments amounting to $157.2 billion was made making it the best investment quarter for the year.

The investments in the clean technology market have risen gradually with a CAGR of 30% from 2005 to 2009. In 2008, the number of deals was 2,853 and in 2009, the deals declined to 2,176.
