Two proposed wind projects of Pristine Power Inc. in Ontario’s Grand Valley and St. Columban have successfully moved onto the next level of the Ontario Feed In Tariff ("FIT") process.
The proposed St. Columban project with capacity of 33 MW is facilitated by the Bruce-to-Milton transmission assignment. The Bruce-to-Milton transmission assignment is likely to have around 1,500 MW of renewable power capacity as indicated by the Ontario Power Authority ("OPA"). Furthermore, the OPA has recommended that the project in St. Columban will be put under an Economic Connection Test ("ECT") that will rank and evaluate the project in comparison with some of the other projects of FIT.
The proposed project at Grand Valley had applied for a capacity of 50.8 MW. However, the OPA has indicated that only a 10.8 MW contract is currently available, with the rest of the 40 MW subject to ranking and Bruce-to-Milton ECT. Currently, Pristine Power is evaluating the ECT process and the awarded contract for determining the total project capacity.
The Chief Executive Officer and President of Pristine Power Jeffry Myers stated that the contracts if awarded will mean that construction on the projects will begin by late 2011, with operations commencing in 2012.
