Novel Wireless Power Transfer Technology for High Capacity Transportation Systems

The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) have developed a wireless power transfer technology that can be applied to high capacity transportation systems such as railways, harbor freight, and airport transportation and logistics. The technology supplies 60 kHz and 180 kW of power remotely to transport vehicles at a stable, constant rate.

Innovative Ion-Conducting Material May Extend Range of Electrically Powered Automobiles

Innovative lithium-air batteries will hopefully extend the range of tomorrow’s electrically powered automobiles by several times. The SCHOTT technology group is currently developing an innovative ion-conducting material for this purpose as part of the publicly funded research project GLANZ (“SHINE”), which stands for “anodes and cells protected by glass.”

While sales of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) have fallen short of projections to date, interest in these vehicles is growing, particularly in large metropolitan areas. Cities like New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle combine large population areas with early rollout schedules from vehicle manufacturers, and positive attitudes toward PEVs among residents, making them fertile ground for PEV manufacturers in the coming years.

Automaker DongFeng Places Order for Electrovaya’s Lithium Ion SuperPolymer Batteries

Electrovaya Inc. today announced that it has received an initial contract to produce prototypes to deliver complete electric vehicle battery systems for DongFeng Motors' two electric vehicle platforms. DongFeng Motors (DFM) plans to commercially launch these two electric vehicles by late 2013.
