UPM Successfully Complete EIA for Biofuel Refinery in Finland

The environmental impact assessment for a possible second generation biofuel refinery has been concluded in Rauma and Kuusankoski, Finland. The responsible authority, Southeast Finland Regional Environment Centre, has issued its official statement concerning the assessment. In the statement the authority commends that the assessment made by UPM is well prepared and includes a lot of information about the different implementation alternatives and their environmental impacts. The authority concluded that the assessment is sufficient and meets the requirements of the EIA law and statute.

Largest Rooftop Solar System Inaugurated in Europe by Trina Solar

The largest rooftop solar system in Europe with a capacity of 40MW was inaugurated by Trina Solar, a leading manufacture of solar photovoltaic products that includes wafers, cells and ingots along with assembly of PV modules. The installation of this rooftop solar system was completed with the use of solar modules from Trina Solar. These solar modules were supplied based on the sales agreement between Trina Solar and Invictus. Invictus, a partner of the Benelux TEC Servicegroup, is a Belgian company.

Industrial Biotechnology Tools Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Industrial Production

Greenhouse gas emissions from the production of a wide range of products, from auto parts to fabrics, can be drastically reduced by utilizing industrial biotechnology tools. A technology showcase was jointly hosted by EuropaBio and the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), at Copenhagen, Denmark. The event was organized to demonstrate the important part played by biotechnology in developing ecofriendly products, such as automobile tires, carpets and biofuels, as alternatives to products from conventional production methods. These products were selected by the UN Climate Change Conference organizers.
