Europe to Build Five New CO2 Laboratories

Europe is to invest NOK 730 million in joint European laboratories for CO2 capture and storage - and will use almost a third of the total in Norway. NTNU and SINTEF will coordinate the international effort, which will involve building five CO2 laboratories in Trondheim.

DuPont Innovation Center Goes Solar

The completed renovation project of the Innovation Center at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del., in mid-2008, included the installation of a solar energy system which was funded in part by the State of Delaware's Green Energy Program. The photovoltaic (PV) panels of the system, which are located on the roof of the building, collect solar energy and convert it to provide 30 kilowatts of power each day.

Solar Power Partners Places 19 New Solar Energy Facilities into Commercial Operation

Solar Power Partners, Inc. Stanford Establishes $100 Million Research Institute to Focus Intently on Energy Issues

Recognizing that energy is at the heart of many of the world's tribulations - economic, environmental and political - Stanford is establishing a $100 million research institute to focus intently on energy issues, President John Hennessy announced today. The $100 million in new funds will enable the hiring of additional faculty and support new graduate students, in addition to the more than $30 million in yearly funding now spent on energy research.

Ascent Healthcare Solutions announced today that their hospital partners eliminated 4,300,000 pounds (2,150 tons) from local landfills, and realized a record $138,142,000 in supply cost and waste savings in 2008 related to remanufacturing/reprocessing of medical devices. Supply cost savings are up 27% since last year.

Electric Car Trial to Tackle Carbon Emissions

A leading UK university and NHS Trust are piloting an exclusive electric car trail to help cut carbon emissions throughout the region. Aston University in Birmingham and North Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust are two of only 60 organisations to have taken delivery of the latest smart ed car, which will be officially launched next year.

Manufacturers of Sulfuric Acid Agreed to Spend $12 Million on Air Pollution Controls

Three manufacturers of sulfuric acid have agreed to spend at least $12 million on air pollution controls that are expected to eliminate more than 3,000 tons of harmful emissions annually from six production plants in Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Justice Department announced today. Chemtrade Logistics, Chemtrade Refinery Services, and Marsulex also will pay a civil penalty of $700,000 under the Clean Air Act settlement.

Samsung Agrees to Market and Sell Aspen Aerogels Insulation to the Solar Thermal Industry

Aspen Aerogels Inc. and Samsung America Inc. have signed a cooperative sales agreement under which Samsung will market and sell Aspen Aerogels' thermal insulation products to the concentrated solar thermal industry in the U.S. and Europe. Samsung also will market Aspen products to other energy related areas as well as petrochemical applications in selected geographies.
