JSC RusHydro Installs Restored GU No. 3 at Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP

JSC RusHydro has installed the hydro electric generating unit (GU) No 3 at Neporozhniy Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP. This restored 640 MW unit was linked to the grid to carry out operational tests.

The total capacity of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP is now 2560 MW. The restoration work was undertaken by the personnel of JSC RusHydro after the accident, which took place on the 17th August 2009 and four GUs of 640 MW capacities  were restored. GU No 6, GU No.5, GU No.4 and GU No.3 and were put back into action on 24th February, 22nd March, 2nd August and 22nd December respectively and the total output surpassed 10 billion kWh.

This launch has completed the first phase of the refurbishment work at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP. The second phase would be implemented by 2011 by RusHydro wherein six new hydro-electric GUs manufactured by Power Machines would be installed. Between 2013 and 2014 all the four restored units would be replaced by new GUs and that would constitute the final phase of reconstruction. The life expectancy of the new units would rise by 40 years and the turbines would work with a maximum efficiency of 96.6% and enhanced cavitation performance and output. The turbines would also be fitted out with an improved technological protection system.
