International Workshop: Cooperation for a Green Transformation

We are increasingly exceeding our planet’s limits, with results such as advancing climate change and the destruction of biological diversity which jeopardises our natural life support systems.

A major transformation towards sustainable societies is both necessary and feasible. It entails a considerable societal reorganization and technical innovation to foster low-carbon and socially inclusive development. Global cooperation is a fundamental requirement for such a green transformation. Only by cooperating can humankind accelerate the development and application of technical solutions towards low carbon societies and manage the economic, social, political and normative challenges of such a transition.

This workshop will explore needs, strategies and options for an intensified cooperation in two key areas: energy and food production; it will furthermore discuss what overarching approaches are needed to set quickly into motion a green transformation towards a more sustainable and equitable world. The workshop’s objective is to highlight cooperation successes, identify the most promising solutions and discuss different visions of how to successfully promote a green transformation at the level of societies, states and the global level.

The workshop will bring together approximately 60 influential international participants from think tanks, politics, NGOs, economy and finance, as well as the renewable energy sector. It will be the first in a series of interactive scholar and practitioner workshops of the Centre for Global Cooperation Research. The workshop series will provide important input for the Centre’s academic work on the nature and success conditions of global cooperation and create mutual learning opportunities for participants from different public and private spheres.
