Hystar and BHEL Partner to Accelerate India’s Green Hydrogen Economy with Local PEM Electrolyzer Manufacturing

Hystar and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) – one of India’s largest state owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise in the energy and infrastructure sectors – have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement to enable the phased local manufacturing of ultra-efficient PEM electrolyzers based on Hystar’s technology for green hydrogen projects in India.

Expanding Hystar’s International Footprint

The agreement marks a major milestone in Hystar’s international expansion, bringing its high-efficiency PEM electrolyzer technology into one of the world’s largest emerging green hydrogen markets. By combining Hystar’s technology with BHEL’s extensive engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities, the partnership charts a clear path towards cost-competitive, locally manufactured PEM electrolyzer systems for the Indian market, and positions Hystar as a preferred international technology partner to one of India’s most prominent engineering and manufacturing enterprise in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The agreement was signed at BHEL’s Corporate Office in New Delhi by senior representatives of both organizations, in the presence of a delegation from the Royal Norwegian Embassy led by Arvinn Eikeland Gadgil, Chargé d’Affaires.

Building India’s Green Hydrogen Economy

India has set ambitious targets for the development of a domestic green hydrogen economy through its National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiatives, driving the demand for hydrogen and electrolyzer technologies, and building on the backbone of local manufacturing capabilities.

This partnership gives both companies a strategic platform to help lead that growth, pairing Hystar’s patented, high-efficiency PEM technology with BHEL’s deep manufacturing experience and reach across India’s energy sector.

India will play a key role in the global transition to green hydrogen, and the collaboration with BHEL provides a clear path to deploy our unique technology in the Indian market. We look forward to a long-term collaboration while building local capabilities together with such a capable partner as BHEL,” said Fredrik Mowill, CEO, Hystar.
