Siemens Wins Order for Operation and Maintenance of PV Systems

Siemens Industry has won an order from the Madrid-based company Eolia Renovables for the technical operation and maintenance of four photovoltaic systems with a total power output of over 45 MW. Spanning a period of more than 20 years, the service and maintenance contract has a volume of approximately EUR40 million.

Close to Beneixama in the Spanish province of Alicante is the location of one of the largest photovoltaic parks in the world. More than 100,000 solar modules supply more than 12,000 Spanish households with electricity. Eolia Renovables operates three more photovoltaic systems in Mahora, Bonete and Alconchel. Siemens has supplied the entire electrical equipment for all four solar parks and intends to expand significantly its share of the market with a new range of photovoltaic (PV) inverters for medium-sized and large systems. According to the latest study by IMS Research, the market for PV systems is set to grow by at least 30 percent every year to 2013.

Photovoltaic systems, products and after-sales service form part of the Siemens environmental portfolio which generated sales of EUR19 billion in fiscal 2008. This represents about a quarter of the company's total sales.
