RockTron Wins Rushlight's Fossil Fuels Award

RockTron – the pioneering recycling technology company – beat internationally renowned entrants, to win Rushlight’s Fossil Fuels Award!

The Rushlight Awards celebrate the leading energy, resource and environmental technologies of Britain and Ireland, and were held this year at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Thursday 28th January. RockTron Limited won the Fossil Fuels Award, in recognition of its spectacular leap forward in Fly Ash Recycling, the potential of which could help cut man-made CO2 emissions by up to 2% whilst reducing the need for fossil fuel usage! The Award recognises technological advancement or innovation that has made a significant contribution to the reduction in environmental impact of fossil fuel usage.

RockTron was also shortlisted for the Rushlight Energy Environmental Award for outstanding contribution to green energy across all award entries.

RockTron’s award winning technology is unique in that it processes both fresh AND stockpiled coal-fired power station waste. The waste, known as fly ash, is transformed it into 100% recycled eco-minerals with absolutely no waste or effluent. RockTron’s eco-minerals offer a wealth of exciting new industrial applications, serving as functional fillers in rubbers and plastics, giving improved physical properties. They can be used in cement and concrete manufacturing, or coated to change their surface chemistry for use in paints & coatings, flooring, plastics, elastomers, thermoplastics, thermosets, tyre manufacturing and electronics. Furthermore, RockTron’s process extracts pure carbon from the fly ash, giving this back to the power station, returning more energy to the national grid than it consumes!

RockTron’s use of fly ash effectively solves the problems of large-scale waste storage and removal, site remediation and conservation of natural mineral resources. Moreover, RockTron’s new process can green the supply chain and help the UK government meet its commitment to cut carbon emissions by at least 26% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. RockTron estimates that for every 500,000 tonnes of RockTron products used, 400,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions can be saved. This equates to 10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions saved during the lifetime of every RockTron plant over 25 years.

“RockTron’s revolutionary recycling technology, with our new range of 100% recycled, environmentally friendly, high performance eco-minerals will help save fossil fuels, cut costs, and reduce Britain’s carbon footprint!”
