YRC Worldwide has launched a new Green Balance Calculator, which was developed in collaboration with Sustainable Travel International. Customers who would like to help offset their emissions that are related with their shipments through carbon offset projects that are certified can utilize this calculator.
Chief Sustainability Officer of YRC Worldwide, Mike Kelley, said the company’s sustainable business practices commitment is demonstrated with the development of this Green Balance Calculator. The company is strongly committed to promote waste reduction, greenhouse gas reduction as well as for conservation throughout its daily activities to reduce its carbon footprint.
Eight transportation activities that influence or generate carbon emissions that are evaluated by the calculator include rental car miles, employee reimbursed miles, electricity, employee commuting, hotel nights, rail miles, fuel, and air miles. YRC Worldwide is the only transporter to utilize this tool partnering with customers to improve the environment through sustainable practices.
YRC Worldwide adopts various green practices such as offering less-than-truckload service to customers by “carpooling” shipments. Drivers are provided lodging thus eliminating engine idling and adopting speed restriction strategy for its engines to optimize fuel and equipment efficiency to reduce emissions.
