Camelina-Based Fuel Powers U.S. Air Force Flight

An important milestone has been achieved with the successful test flight of a U.S. Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II that was powered by camelina-based jet fuel blended with conventional jet fuel in 1:1 ratio. The camelina-based fuel was produced by Sustainable Oils, a manufacturer of renewable, low carbon fuels. This is the first time that all the engines in a plane used biomass fuel blended with traditional jet fuel. On 25th March, the flight took place at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida for a period of 90 minutes.

Brazilian Sugarcane Ethanol Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions Substantially: IFPRI Report

An important report titled "Global Trade and Environmental Impact of the EU Biofuels Mandate" from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has revealed that European countries can cut down carbon emissions in the transport sector by using Brazilian sugarcane-based ethanol—the most emission free biofuel. When compared to petrol, this biofuel cuts down emissions of greenhouse gases by approximately 90%.

About 42 student teams, comprising more than 400 students, from different universities vied with each other to take the top slot in the 2010 Shell Eco-marathon Americas challenge that was held on the streets of Houston. NRG Energy to Acquire South Trent Wind Farm
