PowerCell Commences Study on Storage of Excess Electricity from Wind, Solar Energy as Hydrogen Gas

The leading fuel cell company PowerCell Sweden AB (publ) announces partnership with Wallenstam AB, Midroc Automation AB and Hydrogen Sweden to jointly launch a pilot study on developing a system where surplus energy from wind and solar energy can be temporarily stored as hydrogen which then together with fuel cells provides electricity on cloudy and windless days.

Pristine Sun and Solaris-Synergy to Receive BIRD Energy Program Funding

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Israel's Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources (MIEW) have announced the selection of six projects to receive $5.1 million under the 2015 Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Energy program. Pristine Sun, LLC of San Francisco has been selected by the BIRD energy program to receive funding in partnership with Jerusalem-based Solaris-Synergy, Ltd to further their ongoing efforts to develop floating solar technology.

Google to Purchase Wind Power from EDF Renewable Energy

Google, Inc. announced today that it has signed a deal with EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) to purchase renewable energy for its data center. The Power Purchase Agreement will provide Google with the full output of the 201 megawatt (MW) Great Western Wind Project (Project) located in Woodward and Ellis counties near the base of the Oklahoma panhandle. The Project will commence construction in the first quarter of 2016 and be fully operational by end of the year.

Effectiveness of Mosquito-Fighting Insecticide May be Impaired by Global Warming

The effectiveness of an important mosquito-fighting insecticide may be impaired by global warming, according to a recent study in the Journal of Medical Entomology. Two researchers from Montana State University, graduate student Shavonn Whiten and Dr. Robert Peterson, have shown that permethrin becomes less effective at killing the yellowfever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) as temperatures increase.

Black Carbon Input in Arctic Ocean is Likely to Increase with Global Warming

University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography scientist Aron Stubbins led a team of researchers to determine the levels of black carbon in Arctic rivers and found that the input of black carbon to the Arctic Ocean is likely to increase with global warming. The results of their study were recently published in the journal Frontiers in Earth Science.
