California Energy Commission Awards $1.62 Million Grant to Build Hybrid Energy Storage System

A team of engineers from the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, in partnership with Southern California Edison, has received a $1.62 million grant from the California Energy Commission to build a hybrid energy storage system that stores energy harvested from intermittently productive renewable sources such as solar panels and wind farms, then releases that energy into the grid when demand is high.

An international team of researchers found an 1800 year-long cooling trend in the surface layer of the Earth's oceans, and that volcanic eruptions were the likely cause of the cooling from 801 to 1800 AD. The coolest temperatures were during the Little Ice Age - that was before man-made global warming erased the cooling trend in the 1800s.
