Norbord Commences Solarbord Production in Cordele, Georgia

In an effort to meet the increasing demand for radiant barrier solutions in the South East of the U.S., Norbord Inc. has started production of Solarbord at its oriented strand board (OSB) mill in Cordele, Georgia. Solarbord is manufactured and engineered using Custody Certified Wood’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Chain.

Produced utilizing fiber grown from responsibly controlled forests, the product is a structural roof sheathing integrating serviceability and strength with an energy-efficient radiant barrier. By reflecting around 97% of the radiant energy of the sun, reducing energy usage and lowering attic temperatures, Solarbord offers value to both builders as well as homeowners. Moreover, Solarbord can assist builders obtain the rating points in green building programs including the ANSI National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Solarbord does not contain any urea formaldehyde resins.

Solarbord will be showcased by Norbord during May 12 – 15, 2010 in Atlanta at the Southern Building Show and during May 15 – 18, 2010 in Raleigh, NC at the National Green Building Conference.
