EDF EN Canada Starts Construction of Solar PV Projects in Ontario

EDF EN Canada Inc., which is a part of EDF Energies Nouvelles, has started construction on three solar PV projects with overall capacity of 36 MW. Located close to Lombardy in the Rideau Lakes Township, the Elmsley Solar Project consists of two 12 MW facilities using solar panels of Suntech. The St. Isidore Project with 12 MW capacity is situated close to St. Isidore town and will comprise solar panels from First Solar.

All three facilities are currently being developed as per the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) of the Government of Ontario, which promotes the production of renewable energy.

When put together these projects will produce clean energy for approximately 10,500 homes and will create around 350 jobs during the engineering, design and construction stages. The projects will supply electrical energy by the close of 2010 to the Hydro One distribution grid.

Moreover, in 2009 the company successfully completed the Arnprior Solar Project situated in Ottawa. At the completion of all five RESOP facilities, the company is likely to generate around 60 MW of solar power. EDF EN Canada has chosen White Construction Canada Corp. as the general contractor for these projects.
