Echelon to Conduct Conference on the Indian Energy Efficiency Scenario

Echelon Corporation will be hosting a smart grid and energy efficiency conference during August 25 - 26, 2010 in Mumbai, India. The conference will be addressing energy management technologies along with strategies, regulatory developments as well as the industry trends prevalent in energy efficiency while providing case studies towards implementing smart grids as well as energy management systems.

The rapid growth in the economy in Southeast Asia has raised considerable energy concerns in the region. India is bearing the brunt of high energy costs, distribution losses, chronic power shortages and the inadequate usage of natural resources for the purpose of power generation. Therefore, in an effort towards reducing the energy consumption by around 10,000 MW per year, the Indian government has been analyzing more than 750 users who consume large quantities of energy.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency in India has been mandating certain specific energy usage decreases in large power-consuming industries including power generation plants, manufacturing plants, steel industries and railways. The usage of smart energy control networks and advanced metering decreases the energy demand while helping in offsetting the pressure for increasing the generation capacity.
