SunEdison Signs Accord with GE Capital Real Estate to Install Solar Rooftops

SunEdison, an auxiliary company of MEMC Electronic Materials and a globally known solar energy services offering company, has declared the signing of an accord with GE Capital Real Estate, a worldwide known real estate venture company, to construct 15 industrial rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installations for GE.

The agreement warrants SunEdison to invest in the 2.2 MW project, construct it over the buildings of GE Capital Real Estate, and own the project to operate it, monitor the functions of the installations and provide the required maintenance services while GE will collect the lease rental for the roof space rented without making any capital investment in the project. The power produced from the project will be purchased by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) under the conditions of Ontario Feed-in Tariff program. The company is planning to begin the construction of the roof top installations at the beginning of fall this year. The installations will be located in places such as Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Burlington and Brampton and extra systems are to be placed in London. During its anticipated life time of 20 years the installed systems will generate around 47 million kWh of clean solar power that can offset approximately 9.8 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions produced by 5515 cars in a year.

Jason Gray, SunEdison’s Canada Country Manager, said that being a big solar energy providing company in North America, SunEdison has the required backdrop to realize the solar projects successfully. He added that by working with GE Capital Real Estate and the Government of Ontario his company aids in making Canada Greener.
