Solyndra Installs Solar System on Architectural Landmark in Italy

Solyndra reported that it has completed the installation of a 370 kWp solar system on the rooftop of a building owned by Finpiemonte Partecipazioni, a company held by mixed private and public enterprises in Piemonte, Italy. The building is occupied by Palaexpo Jewelry Company.

Under the power purchase agreement signed along with the local utility company, EGEA, and ARDEA Energia, Solyndra has designed and constructed the solar system. The solar PV system has been nominated for the best rooftop PV installation in Italy for the year 2010.

The solar energy system comprises about 2030 solar panels, all of which have been installed in three weeks. Gruppo Caraglio, an energy performance contractor, was selected by ARDEA Energia, for the panel installation.

Dr. Paolo Marchioni, of Finpiemonte, said that in addition to producing renewable energy, the system complements the architecture of the building in many aspects. As the system was lightweight, it did not require additional penetration or engineering of the roof. Hence, the integrity of the building was protected, and the quick installation caused only minimal disruption to the business operation, Marchioni noted.
