Lumeta Completes Rooftop Solar Installation for Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona

Lumeta declared that it has completed the erection of a 260 kW solar PV system for the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix, Arizona. The installation is complete with the unique lightweight and roof-fixed PowerPly photovoltaic modules.

Unlike conventional rooftop installations the panels are directly fixed over the roof membrane thus ruling out the requirement of rooftop penetrations or use of heavy materials over the roof to keep the systems placed securely.

The PowerPly photovoltaic modules include the patented Tefzel (ETFE) front sheet manufactured by DuPont and a lightweight compound substrate with high output ratio monocrystalline silicon solar cells to increase power production thus obviating glass and aluminum frame arrangement found in regular modules. The PowerPly modules designed for use over roofs with low level gradient can be fixed over the flat surfaces of roof without additional racking structures thus lessening the system weight and staving off overload issues. The penetration less installation forestalls roof leaks and resultant maintenance and it drastically lessens the time taken for installation and saves on balance of system costs. The module is IEC and UL certified and Class B fire rating.

The installed solar module will enable the museum to display the music instruments illuminated with green solar power. The solar installation will reduce nearly 15% of the museum’s spending on electricity every year. The low-profile solar modules will merge with the roofing of the museum without obvious protrusions.
