Cavico, a Vietnam-based multi-national company engaged in civil engineering design, infrastructure and construction, declared that its auxiliary company, Cavico Hydropower has pushed through the adit sub-tunnel No.2 and finished building a 138-foot-high surge shaft for the Song Giang 2 Hydropower project.
The project contract involving excavation of around 2.8 miles for a headrace tunnel, a 138-feet-high surge shaft and two sub-tunnels was awarded to Cavico in January 2009.
The Song Giang 2 hydropower plant is placed on the Song Giang River located southwest of Khanh Hoa Province and nearly 31 miles away from Nha Trang city. On successful completion, the hydropower plant with 37 MW power generation capabilities is anticipated to produce around 141 million kWh of electric power every year. The power produced from the plant will be linked to the national power grid to overcome power shortage faced by the country.
The Song Giang 2 hydropower plant constructed at an estimated investment of around $50 million will remain the largest among the hydropower plants in the Khanh Hoa province.
