SolarWorld Provides Solar Panels for Car Parking at Cincinnati Zoo + Botanical Garden

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has dedicated the solar parking lot canopy for the use of the visitors.

The canopy solar system utilizes unobstructed areas to produce clean energy from the sun while providing shade to the vehicles of visitors and protect them from the weather elements.

SolarWorld has provided 6,400 solar panels for the installation to generate 1.56 MW of clean power. The 15 array solar system was designed, developed and erected by Melink and provides shade to 800 of the total 1,000 parking lots located at the main parking lot of the zoo. Melink, being a Milford, Ohio-based company, utilized the metal canopy structures manufactured by an Ohio company and sourced all the equipment needed for the installation locally.

The solar installation covering over four acres of land is expected to generate enough power to meet nearly 20% of the power requirement of the zoo and will allow the zoo to save millions of dollars in the coming years.
