The University of North Dakota’s Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) declared that it has utilized its exclusive refining technologies to manufacture jet fuel from a mix of biomass and coal raw materials.
The technology is based on a direct liquefaction method and uses feedstocks of coal and biomass to produce the jet fuel mix for the U.S. Military purposes..
The introduction of new fuel is the result of the continuous research of EERC to find an alternative for fossil fuel petroleum. This clean jet fuel, while improving the functionality and energy security of aviations, will also cut down the impact on environment. The use of biomass and coal mix will reduce carbon dioxide emissions generated by the fuel, minimize the use of land meant for food production and utilize large deposits of coal in the U.S.
The fuel, manufactured under a cooperative deal with the National Energy Technology Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, satisfies important aviation fuel specifications and meets the energy requirements of the U.S. military.
