Portuguese Apps Developed to Assist Electric Vehicle Users

The proliferation of electric vehicles confronts two basic challenges currently such as the want of more number of charging locations to charge the vehicles and power holding duration of the charged batteries.

A smart software application fully developed by the Portuguese for use in the Android Smartphone has the inbuilt capability to assist the EV drivers to locate a nearest power charging facility in real-time.

The new application enables the drivers to have details on the current level of battery charging available and nearest charging points on the route by the touch of a button. The installed new Android application will improve the travelling comfort of the EV drivers simply by remaining in touch with an online facility utilizing NDrive GPS navigation software. The software assists the drivers with information on the nearest charging stations by gauging the balance of battery power available in the battery. The software provides information on occupancy status of a charging station and allows the users to have a pre-defined routing information.

The usage of the software will be demonstrated utilizing a real time test drive to the public under the auspices of the MOBILES project in September. During the demonstration an Alfa prototype electric vehicle developed CEIIA will be utilized. The development of an application for use in Android is one of the constituents of the MOBILES project and the others include NDrive navigation software and an online platform.
