PureCell Stationary Fuel Cell System Installed in New York Building

UTC Power, which offers energy-efficient products and services, has declared that its PureCell stationary fuel cell system has been installed at 1211 Avenue of the Americas building located in New York City. The building is owned by an affiliate of Beacon Capital Partners.

The fuel cell system has been provided to the main tenant in the building, News. The electricity produced on-site is used to power the company’s TV studios and to heat water. The system is a combination of electricity production, heating and cooling systems. Furthermore, the system enhances functional consistency and lowers the energy expenditure, offering a clean environment. In addition, the system offers energy security and can function without power grid. Hence, it can supply power even during natural disasters, man-made crisis and blackouts.

The combined heat and power (CHP) PureCell fuel cell system reduces green house emissions, provides 90% efficiency and offers cell stack stability for a decade when compared to other fuel cell systems. By using an electrochemical process, the fuel cells produce water, heat and generate power.

The power produced eliminates over 675 MT of CO2 per year, which is equal to planting trees in over 156 ac. The nitrogen oxide emissions are also reduced when compared to traditional power production plants. The reduced nitrogen oxide emissions are equivalent to eliminating over 114 cars on road. Furthermore, almost 4.2 million gal of water is saved per year by using the system.
