EDF Renewable Energy has placed a firm order with Vestas for 220 megawatts (MW) of V100-2.0 MW wind turbine generators. The order is part of the Master Supply Agreement (MSA) announced in September 2013.
The most recent order brings the firm commitment of the Vestas turbines to 300 MW to meet the demands of two projects being constructed in the Texas Panhandle: Hereford 1 and Longhorn North. Deliveries and commissioning of both projects are expected to occur in the second half of 2014.
“We are pleased to be working with Vestas to bring additional Texas wind projects online over the next 18 months,” said Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President at EDF Renewably Energy. “The Hereford 1 and Longhorn North projects will not only provide affordable, clean energy to the Texas grid, but also provide an economic boost to the local communities surrounding the projects, in the form of new jobs, local taxes, and other direct and indirect benefits.”
Chris Brown, President of Vestas’ sales and service division in the United States and Canada further added, “Vestas looks forward to working with EDF Renewable Energy to build more clean-energy projects in Texas. It’s one of the strongest wind-power markets in the world, and where we have already supplied turbines to nine major wind power plants in the state. This order also will help to create more American jobs at our blade, tower and nacelle factories in Colorado.”
