Global Wind Energy Capacity Sees Double Digit Growth in 2012

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) recently released its 2012 market statistics, showing continued expansion of the market, with global installed wind energy capacity increasing by 19 per cent in 2012 to 282,000 MW. Canada remains a global wind energy leader as it experienced the 9th largest increase in installed capacity in 2012 (936 MW). Both China and the United States, the world's wind energy leaders, installed more than 13,000 MW of new capacity in 2012.

Global Geothermal and Hydropower Markets Witness Slower Growth

Although the global consumption and installed capacity of hydropower and geothermal technologieshave increased steadily since 2003, both types of energy saw slower growth in 2011, according to new research conducted by the Worldwatch Institute for its Vital Signs Online service. Global installed capacity of hydropower reached 970 gigawatts (GW), only a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year, while geothermal cumulative capacity reached 11.2 GW, slowing to below 1 percent for the first time since 2002, writes report author Evan Musolino.

SC Johnson to Increase Use of Renewable Energy at Toluca, Mexico Facility

SC Johnson announced today its participation in the Comision Federal de Electricidad's (CFE/Federal Electricity Commission) wind farm program; a power purchase agreement which will enable SC Johnson to increase its use of renewable energy at its Toluca, Mexico facility to an estimated 86 percent, up by 65 percent, and to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions for the same facility by 57 percent. This represents the next step in the company's commitment to increasing its usage of renewable energy.
