The results will help scientists improve atmospheric air-quality and pollution transport models.

UL Receives Science Foundation Ireland Funding for Sustainable Planning Research Projects

The University of Limerick has secured €5.3M of the €30M investment by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) in infrastructure recently announced by Minister Sean Sherlock. This infrastructural funding was awarded to research groups where projects demonstrated partnerships and collaborations, links with industry, relevance to Ireland’s prioritised research areas and sustainable planning. The award to UL includes projects in which researchers are working closely with Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Advanced Materials and Food companies.

Surmont Energy Hunts for Acquisition Proposals for Wildwood Oil Sand Project

Surmont Energy (Surmont) has retained Western Divestments ("WD") to canvas the market for potential joint venture partners or acquisition proposals on its Wildwood oil sand project 70 kms south of Fort McMurray. Alternative proposals including financing may be considered. An application to build SAGD facilities for the first 12,000 bopd phase of the Wildwood SAGD project was submitted to the ERCB in October 2012.

First Wind Dedicates Bull Hill Renewable Energy Project

First Wind, an independent U.S.-based wind energy company, today announced that construction of its 34 megawatt (MW) Bull Hill Wind project has been completed and commercial operations have begun. Located on the ridges of Bull Hill and Heifer Hill in Hancock County, Maine, the project features 19 1.8 MW wind turbines that have the capacity to generate enough clean energy to power nearly 18,000 homes.
